A Message from Karen

Thank you for viewing my webpage. I am a Democrat running for Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County and hope that I earn your vote on Primary Day, March 20, 2012. I am a lifelong resident of the Chicago area and have spent my entire legal career working in the Circuit and Appellate courts.

For sixteen years I was privileged to serve as an Assistant State’s Attorney prosecuting thousands of criminals in the felony courts. I worked on behalf of the citizens of Cook County to help make our community a safer place to live.

For five years I was a supervisor in the Child Advocacy Division, a unit dedicated to prosecuting offenders who commit sex crimes against the most vulnerable of victims - children. One of the most gratifying aspects of my career has been standing in the courtroom fighting for justice for these kids.

In addition to my many years as a criminal prosecutor, since 2008 I have been working in private practice representing clients in complex civil litigation. The combination of my civil and criminal experience has prepared me well to sit on the bench.

For 15 years I have had the pleasure of teaching law school students the ins and outs of the courtroom. As an Adjunct Professor of Law at both Northwestern and DePaul I have taught students the law and how to use it in the courtroom. I also taught in the Criminal Justice Program at University of Illinois Chicago, educating the future professionals in that field.

I believe my entire professional career has prepared me well to be a judge. Throughout my career and my life I have always believed people must be treated fairly and with dignity. In a courtroom it is the judge who ensures that people get that respect. It would be an honor to serve you in that capacity and I hope that this webpage allows you to get to know more about me. I invite you to join my campaign and I hope to have your support on Primary Day.
